INTERVIEW
THE JOHNS
by Christer Davidsson, July 2006
Hey! What's up?
Mike: The fucking temprature. What's the weather like over there?
It’s hot over here as well. Tell me about band. For how long have you been playing togeteher as The Johns?
Mike: A little over a year. We've been in and out of bands in the same area for a while now but this is the first time we've all been the the same band.
How did you get together?
Mike: Rob called me and he was "-Hey mike it's rob...I'm returning your call from 13 weeks ago." and I'm "I forgot what I needed. How you doing?" and Rob was "I just got home from tour and I want to hang myself" so you know we talked him down. Talked him into another band....SUCKER! (band laughing)
Describe the sound of The Johns to the ones who are new to your music.
Mike: Punk Rock -N- Roll, Loud, Dead Boys, Steve Jones, Stooges, Etc. Do the math.
You’ve got your debut album Preacher coming out on ANKO Records pretty soon. How was the recording of it?
Mike: It was the first time I haven't been compromised because of budget or ability or time or studio or equipment.
Tommy: It's great working with a producer that got it and added to it! Go Paul Miner!
Tell me about the title of the album. How come it’s called Preacher?
Mike: Do you want the press release arty answer? (more laughing)
Cause Rob is a Dick and he didn't like anything else!
Tommy: It's the only song title that kind of worked. Simple as that.
What can you tell me about the songs on the new record?
Mike: Out of 123 songs these are the only songs asshole Rob would let us put on the record! (hysterical laughing)
Tommy: We liked ‘em and thought you might.
Will you be touring a lot after the release of it?
Mike: We're working on a US National now and an EU tour as soon as we can get some product out there! Any labels reading this? Mutiny? Hello Mutiny? LOL
Have you been doing a lot of shows?
Joel: We play a lot of shows.
How has the crowd recevied the band?
Tommy: Fucking Excellent!
Mike: Yeah I don't get it. The public has no taste obviously.
Do you have any plans on coming over to Europe?
Mike: Rob says he needs a bike so yes...we will work harder! lol
ANKO also released your first 7. How has that release been going? Have you sold a lot of it?
Mike: More than we expected.
Rob: Frisby is still big I guess.
In what way is playing in The Johns different from playing with your other bands; The Hunns, The Grabbers, The Bleeders, etc?
Mike: No blood, No rigs, and we have a van that runs!
Whats the best thing about playing in The Johns?
Mike: Being amazed at how many things Tommy can unplug or break during out set!
More releases coming up that you know of?
Tommy: Already working on new stuff. We're a bunch of neurotic fucks that have to play music or we do bad things.
Other than The Johns, how much time do you guys spend on music?
Mike: 110% of the time!
What are you plans for the near future?
Mike: Dinner, Get Laid, Play shows, How near are we talking?
Anything youd like to say to the readers of Mutiny?
Yeah we want to say support your local scene and if you dont' have one...make one. We want to say hi to Beef, Boner, Spooky, and Andy (the Bones) and our friends the Accidents! Oh, and our friends Kitty and Mike Kowalski making their Swedish debut this month! Go see a show!
All right, thanks for answering the questions! Good luck with the new album!
