INTERVIEW
TRIPP UNSEEN
by Taron Cochrane, October 2006
Hey Tripp, How are ya doing?
Good!
Can you give us a brief history of your band, The Unseen?
13 years of punk rock mayhem, poor descions, great and not so great tours a like!
Have you guys ever stopped touring? How do you do it?
Not for very long and to be honest I have no idea how we've gone this long on the road so often with out murdering each other...just lucky I guess, that and most of us hate the idea of getting real jobs so our options are limited.
The latest album, "State of Discontent" is, in my opinion, one of your strongest. What do you think differentiates this album from the rest?
Little more money to spend, some extra studio time exlporing different ideas. On previous records we had less of a budget so we had less time to fuck around with our songs and thier arragnments. This last outing we took our time, or at least more time than previously.
What can we expect for the next album?
More of the same...some songs are more of a throw back to some of our older material but still we're growing as a band even after all these years.
Music isn't your only strong point, you just released a book. Tell us about that.
It's a book that describes the bands history, from our humble formation in the garage all the way up to our singing with Epitaph...and all the crazy shit that we've seen touring for ten years, belive me there's a lot to tell!
You are "hands down" the first punk rocker I know to release an audio version of his book. What has the reaction been?
So far more people have bought the book which is good because I feel it's a much stronger of a 'read' than a 'listen'. But some punks aren't known for their love of liturature so i thought 'hey, why not do an audio version as well for those lazy bastards who refuse to read at all'!
What made you decide to release the book on Hopeless Records?
They were the first people who showed any interest in releasing my book! First come first served in my world, just like Wendy's.
Just about done here, I'm wondering what bands/albums currently inspire you?
I love the new Hold Steady record...doesn't inspire me to write music but to read more books. I also love the Hostage Life, a small time punk band outta Canada...great stuff!
Thanks for the great interview! Anything you would like to add before we go?
