Hey guys, how are you? We're fine thanks, everything is going great right now!
So tell me when did you start the band, where are you from and who are the members?
Well we're from a smalltown called Pargas on the south coast of Finland. We started the band sometime around 2001. The members are Chris - vocals/guitar, Gesto - lead guitar, Rob - bass, Fille - drums.
Is there any reason for the name DEAD BY GUN?
No there's no reason at all, we just needed a name and DEAD BY GUN came up.. Now its inked on our arms so I guess its gonna hang along til' the bitter end.
How would you discribe your sound?
Thats a tricky question, we have a lot of punk in our sound, but also rock. People say we sound like Rancid, and maybe its true? I dont know. We don't give a fuck cuz everybody knows that Rancid is the best punkrock band in the world right now so it actually makes us feel honored if we are compared to them! I would probably describe ourselves as an streetpunkrocknroll band.. If that makes any sense?
Do you play a lot of shows?
Yeah usually we play alot of shows but we've been busy this year writing new songs for our upcoming album so it's been a little quiet lately. Touring is the best part of being in a band so we are definitely gonna hit the road as soon as the record hit the stores! We've been to the Netherlands, England, Scotland, N.Ireland, Sweden and of course around Finland earlier.
I only know the myspace tracks and I really love them all, so tell me is there any upcoming record?
Well thank you very much! And yes, as I said earlier, we do have an album coming out on Hype Records early next year. No release date is set yet but I guess it's out in February. The yet untitled record contains 13 songs
and I have to say that they all sound quite good! Make sure to buy it! Or then you just steal it from the internet.
What are your songs about in general?
Friends and family, personal stuff and about overall life in a smalltown. Simple things like our own opinions and visions. I choose not to sing about women and politics cuz I don't know a fuck about that..
Which bands are you influenced by? Rancid, Social Distortion, US Bombs, The Clash, Backyard Babies, Guns'n'Roses, Bombshell Rocks, Dropkick Murphy's the list goes on and on...
How is the finish punkrockscene and are there a lot of clubs where you can play?
That's a problem, you can't really do any bigger tours over here 'cuz most clubs don't put punkbands on the bill. Most of them don't even have live bands at all. The punkscene in Finland is really fucked up in my own opinion 'cuz it's ruled by friends and their friends' bands and that makes it really hard for new bands to book gigs. It's mostly 'bout hardcore, emo and crustmeatalshit in this country. But Ii have to say we have some really good punkbands over here as well. Bands like No Shame, The Heartburns, Flippin' Beans, Evilsons, Brigade, So Called Plan and of course our good friends in Heartbreak Stereo. Make sure to check 'em out..
Any plans for the future?
Yeah, we have a video shoot later this year and some promotion to do for the upcoming release. Next year is all 'bout live shows and touring so we really look forward to that!
