Hi! How is everthing going?
Beverly Crime: Yeah, the working day is done and now I can have some fun with your questions.
For how long have you guys been together?
We know each other since we were kids in school. We grew up in the same part of the city where we were born. But the serious stuff started - i think - 2 or 3 years ago.
Describe the sound of the band. What do you write about?
We play punkrock. All the stuff we listen to is an inspiration and you always hear something that reminds you of another band or another style. For example when we write a drinkin song you´ll recognize an influence of the Pogues or Swingin' Utters. And the lyrics are about punkrock, drinkin, politics and the dark side of life, but we always keep enough irony - we take nothing really serious. Make sure you got style and find the right attitude, that's it!
You got three seven inches out so far, one of which is the split with Frontkick. What have the response been like?
We didn´t expect anything but we were curious to find out what people outside think about our stuff, and i can say we only got pretty well response. It's not our nature but we made a lot of friends through the music. We got friends all over europe. For example The Heartaches from Belgium, Thee STP from Italy or even Shock Nagasaki from new york city. Dregen of the amazing Backyard Babies came to one of our shows while he stayed in Berlin. We always meet him when he's around! And last but not least our brothers from Frontkick supports us with all their strength.
You released the first 7" and the split on your own label Guitar Mafia Music. What made you start your own label?
Simple idea. We've recorded all the stuff we've released yet in our own rehearsal basement so the idea was; if we can record the stuff on our own we can also release it on our own...and it works pretty well luckily. There are just two packages of singles left in our basement.
"Along Comes Trouble" is the title of your first album that will be your next release. Have you finished the recordings of it yet? When will it be out?
Yeah we already recorded a full length with this title. But it´s still unreleased. I really like some of this stuff - yeah i´m sure someday we put some of the songs on a single. But the album we're gonna record now this summer will be like what we really wanted to do. And I think the name is "Spew Fire In The Tory Heartlands".
What other bands would you say are your influences?
That´s my favorite question. Cuz I just have to drop some names - haha! U.S. Bombs, Swingin' Utters, The Explosion and i can't even deny:Rancid. But everyone of us has his own part in the band and needs his own inspirations to create his own style.
How has playing live been going for you?
It's always different. Depends on the venue, the city, the audience, the drugs, the drinks, the bands we support or are supported by. I can tell you sometimes you meet such a bunch of assholes. Mostly it's fun and we have a big party, that's why we're doing this "job"!
Will the new album be followed up by a tour?
For sure! There are a lot of connections to other bands and clubs that want us to play everywhere. It makes no sense to release an album without a long long tour to spread it all over the world!
All of you have a other bands on the side of Radio Dead Ones. I really like Neurotic TV. Tell me a little bit about those bands.
I really like Neurotic TV too. It´s Marti Neurotic (singer from Frontkick) and our drummer TV. They're sitting in our basement day and night and record all the ideas they can't put in their main bands! Rik our guitarman and Ändru our bass player are playing together with two guys of the Heartaches from Belgium. It's hard for them to go on tour or practice, cuz it´s a fuckin' far distance between Berlin and Antwerp (800 kilometers). Me, yeah what´s up with me... I´m sitting here writing songs and wait for the others to play these songs as Radio Dead Ones.
What do you think of punk in Germany in general?
Berlin is different. You can't compare the rest of Germany to Berlin. I love the scene in Berlin. If you want to, you could go to punk shows nearly 7 days the week. I think we already played a dozen venues in Berlin and there are still a dozen left to play as a punkrock band! But if you're on tour in Germany you find really really cool places everywhere between east 'n' west and north 'n' south. I would say Berlin is the punkrock capital.
What will be going on in the near future?
We will enter the studio to record a pre-7" for the coming full length. So we record through the summer, have the holidays and in the fall we hit the road. And for sure we'll come to Scandinavia too.
Thanks for answering and good luck!
Thanks! Bye!
