BARBIE & THE HOOKERS/ RF7 "Split" 7" out on: Self Released So I throw on this split and the first thing that jumps out at me is that these guys just don't give a Fuck! I'm talking about Barbie And The Hookers… and of course they shouldn't, cause if you like punk rock in the first place you shouldn't give a fuck! BATH (for short) are reminiscent of bands that spend more time playing live then trying to worry about getting a "good drum tone", I guarantee if these guys had released this 25 years ago we'd all be waiting for a reunion tour ala Reagan Youth, TSOL, CH3 and the like. I can't help but think that these guys were on the road for 365 days a year they'd spend 364 of them hung over. RF7 has been around the block so to speak and are an always welcome of fresh air to most of the junk that comes across my desk. Track 8 has a very early era-Vandals feel to it and shows the dynamic this band can bring to the table at any given time. I would suggest this is the type of music that sounds better on vinyl then any sort of digital platform so don't bother downloading them on myspace or purevolume, drop the nickel and pick up a piece of plastic that's worth a spin! /DC, Mutinyzine.com |

KILLING CALIFORNIA "Goin' South" CD out on: Basement Records Basement Records has done it again! Another new band added to their roster that, in my opinion, suits them to a tee. I give to you So-Cal's newest gang of vigilantes out to destroy the "pop world"...Killing California. It's a welcome change to the usual cookie-cutter punk rock and to music in general. Right from ye old get-go with the track, "Song In A" you're put on your ass. "Goin' South" starts off with a fast-paced guitar intro and never slows down. Gritty...hard...knuckles-up punk rock! Gruff vocals, break-neck drums and intensity all combine to provide one helluva good listen. Please do what you gotta do and check this band out. If you don't...I will fight you! |

TIGERSHARK/ THANK GOD "Split" 10" Vinyl out on: MolSook Records Tigershark is not my cup of tea. Their down-tuned punk/ hardcore get's too confusing and to me it sounds more or less like one big mess. Thank God is a little bit better but not much. Screams over a wall of noise, mixed up with weird slow parts doesn't sound that good in my ears. The artwork and layout looks great but that's about it. /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

TIGERSHARK/ APESHIT! "Split" LP out on: MolSook Records Here's another split with Tigershark on one side. I don't like this one either. It's all a big noise... Apeshit is sligthly better, but just slightly... I don't get this at all... Once again, amazing artwork crappy music... /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

THE LOW BUDGETS "Leave Us A Loan" CD out on: Chunksaah Records I wasn't too excited about this band after hearing their last album "Aim Low, Get High" (2005) but with their new record in the player I think I'm starting to change my mind. There's a whole bunch of good songs on this record and over all I think there's a lot more punk rock than on the previous one. The whole recording has got kind of a low-fi feeling to it which fits the band really well. "Craft Fair" is the record's fastest song and my favorite one. Even the organ that I didn't like one the last record is great on this album and the band's singer Chris Peelout is better than ever. I've changed my mind. The Low Budgets are good. In fact, very good at times. /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

THE WORLD/INFERNO FRIENDSHIP SOCIETY "Addicted To Bad Ideas" LP/CD out on: Chunksaah Records TWIFC is a group of nine talented musicians and if I was to describe the band with just one word I'd say - Colorful! Putting a label on this group is hard to say the least. The styles vary throughout the album and if you decide to go get this one you'll get soul, showtunes, flutes, horns, rock'n'roll and everything in between in the same package. All with a punk rock twist to it. It might seem like a bad idea to mix all that stuff together but the truth is that this record sounds fantastic. My favorite track on the album is "Everybody Comes To Rick" which got a saxophone in it that sounds a bit like something by the Pogues. It's also the most punky song on the record. Give this record a listen if you get the chance, it's cool. /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

MOMMY NEEDS A COCKTAIL "Demo" Demo-CD out on: Self Released When Shock Nagasaki stopped by Berlin on their european tour guitarist Widing and bassplayer Jake hooked up with TV Moerk of the Radio Dead Ones and entered a studio with nothing more than a load of booze and their instruments. It was supposed to be a joke but as far as I'm concerned it turned out to be one of the best punk recordings I've heard this year. There's four tunes on the demo and my favorite one is called "Strike On The Box". The sound reminds me of Widing's original band Smartbomb at times which is cool. The sound of the recording is good as hell and the songs are amazing. I just love the handclap over the last chorus of "Mommy Needs A Cocktail" and I'm amazed by how good something that has just been thrown together can sound so good. Look 'em up at MySpace! I'd love to hear more stuff from this band and who knows? They just might get back together for another recording one of these days... Let's hope so... /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

TIGER ARMY "Music From Regions Beyond" LP/CD out on: Hellcat Records I loved Tiger Army's first album and I listened to it a lot when it came out. Back then the whole psychobilly thing was rather new to most people and this band really got things started. Unfortunately way too many crappy bands emerged during that same period and turned the whole genre into crap. I really can't stand most of these bands, they all sound the same... Tiger Army's second and third record was pretty boring but this time around I do like what I hear. On this new album the psychobilly has taken a step back to leave room for more polished and poppy songs. Overall the tempo of the record is slower than most of their early stuff which fits the songs better, at least in my opinion. There are a couple of really good songs on "Music From Regions Beyond" and this album is a step forward for the band. There's keyboards on one of the songs, there's a song in spanish and the whole thing just feels new and fresh. Their best one since the self-titled debut. /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

TOKEN ENTRY "The Re-Issues" Double LP out on: Durty Mick Records This a re-issue of Token Entry's two albums "Jaybird" and "The Weight of the World". These guys were around during the mid- and late eighties and are now seen as legends by some of today's best known hardcore bands. I'd compare this NYC hardcore band to Gorilla Biscuits. There are a couple of really really good songs on here such as the opening track on "Jaybird" called "The Fire". Both these records have that positive vibe about them that I like in hardcore. The record comes in a gatefold-sleeve and the vinyl's brown. Comments by some of NYC Hardcore's most known people such as Civ, Ray Cappo and Toby Morse is also included. Very good! /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

AGNOSTIC FRONT/ DISCIPLINE "Working Class Heroes" Double LP out on: Durty Mick Records Some of you might already have this record since this is a re-issue. It's a split gatefold double LP and it's live. The Agnostic Front LP is really good. Most of the songs are from "Something's Gotta Give" and the following record which I like a lot. Some classics like "Victim In Pain" are on here as well to mix it up a bit. Everything was recorded in Belgium in 2001 and the sound is quite good. The Discipline LP doesn't impress me all that much. I think they're pretty boring and I'd much rather listen to Agnostic Front instead. This double LP comes on red and blue transparent vinyl and looks good. Check it out if you like AF. /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

PATH OF NO RETURN "The Absinthe Dreams" CD out on: Burning Heart Records/ Epitaph These guys live right here in Örebro and they've been around for quite some time now. I've seen this band live numerous times and the one thing that has always impressed me is that they're so extremely professional. When you go see this band you know that you're in for a fucking great show. "The Absinthe Dreams" is the band's second album, their first on Burning Heart/ Epitaph, and demonstrates heavy, technical hardcore at it's very best. Song's like "Soran", "Cold Grief, Empty Eyes" and "All We Are" really shows that this record is their greatest effort so far. This album is so extremely well put together and it just might be the beginning of something huge, at least I hope so. A few extra points goes out to the band's new singer Patrik Jakobson for making this band even better than they were before and to Burning Heart Records for finally releasing a good record. Check this one out! /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

JENA BERLIN "Quo Vadimus" CD out on: Jump Start Records Jena Berlin from Philadelphia play indie-rock/ post-hardcore and this record is their first on Jump Start. At the first listening I thought this record was a bit too complex and I couldn't really get it, but it definitely grows with time. This record needs some patience, at least in my case, but it gets really good. I like the lyrics, and the riffs a lot. There's also some really cool back up vocals that really lifts the songs to another level. My favorite songs on this album is the opening track "Chelsea" and "Instruments". It would be great the hear a few more fast songs next time, I think that would make this band really really interesting. /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

UP UP DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT B A START "Worst Band Name Ever" CD out on: Self Released Well, this is a pop record and I'm not that into this whole genre of bands but I'll try to say something about it anyway. It's pretty good, in fact a lot better than most pop bands nowadays. Hmm, I think of the Weakerthans at times but it's a bit softer. This record probably needs to be listened through a few times in order to stick to your head. Check it out if you like alternative pop. Not bad but not great either. Well, that's all I could come up with... /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

SUBURBAN LOCKDOWN "Laid To Waste" CD out on: Durty Mick Records Rockin' punk rock with hardcore influences from Orlando, Florida. This recording reminds me of Agnostic Front's "Something's Gotta Give" or "Riot Riot Upstart" which happens to be my favorite A.F. albums. Suburban Lockdown is not as good as Agnostic Front but they're definitely worth looking up if you're into the above mentioned recordings. The second half of the record starting with 58 second song "Dumbed Down" and the SoCal punk rock influenced "Twisted" is the peak of the album. Not to bad. Artwork by Horse Bites Design! /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

LOOK MEXICO "This is Animal Music" CD out on: Lujo Records Alternative rock/ pop from Florida. I'm not a huge fan of this music but every once in a while I give these indie bands a listen. This record is pretty good. There's a lot of good guitar things going on in the background during the verses and the band's singer is kinda good. "You Ever Get Punched in the Face For Talking Too Much" is my favorite tune on the album and it's not the only one with a funny title. What about songs like "Half That Money is Mine and I Want It", "I Had a Wrench and I Hit Him" or "Dude, You Have a Bazooka". If you're into indie pop check it out. I think you'll like it a lot. /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

FOREIGN LEGION "Death Valley" CD out on: Durty Mick Records Five british guys playing classic english punk. Even though I'm a huge fan of british punk rock I don't quite get this band. I like the singer Marcus' accent but the songs are pretty dull. If you're going to play classic punk rock you'll have to have really good songs since the style itself is quite simple. This band have a few songs on here that are ok but then there's a few songs that are really horrible. There's a few songs that sound a bit like Cock Sparrer but then all of a sudden there's this song called "Wasted" that sounds like something off of Megadeth's "Rust In Peace", which is quite weird to say the least... There are also a bunch of solo's that sound like Iron Maiden or something. The artwork signed Taron Cochrane is cool but unfortunatly that doesn't make the recording any better. Nah, I won't be listening to this one anytime soon... /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

DOGZ "Demo" CD out on: Self Released Mathias from Drunk N Roll sent me this demo along with some of his stuff and asked me to give it a listen. Somehow it disappeared but I stumbled upon it last night as I was going through some records and I thought I should give it a go. Dogz are from Rome, Italy and I'd say that they play punk'n'roll with some street rockin' choruses. I think I hear some Business influences as well. Maybe not the best band I've heard but the songs are pretty good and it's well-played. Who knows? I just might listen to it every once in a while. "One In A Million" is a good tune. /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

PURPOSE "1994-2001" CD out on: Black Numbers Records Here's another one of these "complete discography" collections. Purpose started out on 1994 and kept on playing their hardcore/ post-hardcore up until 2001. They put out two fullengths and a bunch of 7-inches during this period and I really like it all. I'm really into this stuff at the moment and the complete works of Purpose couldn't have dropped in the mail at a better time. The 27 track CD really has an even level of quality all the way through, but I'm not saying it's the same sound throughout the whole thing. Their harder tunes brings Paint It Black to mind. The band's latest recordings "Ground Zero Demos" have a bit more complex sound to it while the old stuff is more straight on. My favorite recordings are "Art Is A Weapon" which opens up the collection. "Sand To Glass" and "We Are The Third World" are just incredible good tunes. /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

THE JONESES "Keeping Up With The..." CD/LP out on: Full Breach Kicks I really hate this 80's glam attitude. It's really lame... This album was originally released in 1986 and has now been reissued by Full Breach Kicks. Apparently this band was really popular back then. What can I say? Musically I do like the parts that reminds me of the Rolling Stones but over all it's so damn boring. Glam-punk or whatever people call it is getting popular, at least in Sweden, and I really can't see what's so good about it. Just plain boring... /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

SOHO ROSES "Whatever Happened To..." CD out on: Full Breach Kicks Ok, here's another one of those glam-band reissues. This CD is a collection of the Soho Roses complete works. The band broke up in 1989 and by then they had released an EP, an album and a single. This is probably as boring as music can get. I tried really hard to find one thing that is cool, interesting or at least fun about this band and I did! The photos are hillarious. If you find this CD in the store make sure to check out the photos, but whatever you do - don't buy it... /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

THE DEGENERICS "Generic Record Collection" CD out on: Soul Rebel Records Ever heard The Degenerics? If you have, then you know how freakin' good they are. If you're kind of new to the band, like I am, this is the perfect thing to buy. This is the band's complete discography on one CD. 39(!) songs in total and I must say that most of it is fantastic. Fast, furious NJ hardcore that never seems get boring. There are some really cool reggae influences on there as well that should give you a chance to catch your breath. Personally I like the band's first 7" (1996) the most and "Overtime" is probably my favorite song on this collection. I also really like the songs from the band's only fullength album "Generica" (2000). These guys formed the band somewhere around 1996 and they broke up in 2003. By then they where somewhat legendary in the New Jersey area and this CD should be considered a piece of hardcore history. For fans of Bad Brains, Black Flag or even Dead Kennedys. By the way, the band just got back together! /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

DEAD CITY DREGS "Demo" Demo CD out on: Self Released I don't know for how long this band has been together, I don't know who they are, I don't know where they're from, I don't know what they look like... So, what do I know? Well, to start with, I know they rule! I like all four songs on this fantastic demo. This is one of those demos that shouldn't have been a demo but a real release. What we've got here is interesting punk rock with some really great hooks. Great singer, well-played, really good production and kick-face songs. I'm not going to put a label on this band and I'm not going to compare them to any other bands 'cause that might scare you off. Just do yourself a favor and look this band up 'cause if you like punk rock you won't be dissapointed. /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

ROCK,STAR "Inamorato" CD out on: Black Numbers Records I've been listening quite a bit to Jawbreaker lately and I really like 'em a lot. If you feel the same way then you should definitely check out Rock,Star. This band formed in 1997 as a fun thing and shortly gained a devoted group of fans. However, being a group of friends just having fun when they felt like it the band faded away. Now, 10 years after they first started out, the band is back! I'm not sure if the band will play more frequent this time around but it's a good band and I'm glad I found out about them. This record was recorded 7 years ago but it was never released. Well, Black Numbers Records took care of business and decided to put it out. There's nine songs of melodic punk rock on it, all fantastic! "Trading Cards" and "Carnival" are the peaks of the record. For fans of Jawbreaker, Lifetime or Hüsker Dü. By the way, Zak from The Ratchets is the band's singer! /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

INDEPENDENT PROGRESS "Far From These Shores" CD out on: Self Released Street punk band from Minnesota that obviously know what they're doing. Catchy songs, good vocals and great choruses. Pretty much all you need to do a good street punk album. This band would probably fit in somewhere next to The Forgotten. The production is a bit boring at times and so is the artwork. Other than it's a good record. My personal favorite is without a doubt the opening track "Never Going To Be". I really like the One Man Armish' intro and the quick lyrics in the verses on that one. /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

BATTLEFLASK "Pledge Your Allgiance" MCD out on: Fallen Angel Records Lately I haven't been that excited about any new L.A. band's but here's a group that gave me some new hope. Battleflask's debut "Pledge Your Allegiance" is a really cool 6 CD and what makes me like this one so much is that the band's sound is rather original. It's always fun to hear bands with a different sound. This band has managed to bring together influences from a number of band's and genres. Take the best parts of Street Dogs, the Bouncing Souls and One Man Army, bring in some country parts, add some classic '77 sounds to it and you know what I'm talking about. "Mary O'Mine" is one of the best punk songs I've heard in a while. Definitely a band to keep an eye on. /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

STATIC RADIO NJ "One For the Good Guys" MCD out on: Black Numbers Records Yeah I know, we've reviewed this record already.. But this is the CD version that was just released by a new label called Black Numbers. This version contains two songs that weren't on Chunsaah's vinyl edition. "Can't Keep Us Down" is yet another classic added to this already amazing recording. This one is a real killer, a fast one that turns into a real anthem towards the ending. "Who's Laughing Now" is also a fast one with a chorus that brings Strike Anywhere to mind. The melodic ending of the song closes the record perfectly and I am seriuosly considering calling "One For the Good Guys" the record of the year! Go get this record or you're an idiot... 6 gold stars outta 5! /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

SEASICK "Awakenings" 10" Vinyl out on: Braindrain Records Seven songs of pure energy! I liked this record the first time I heard it and I've been playing it quite a lot since. The band play fast hardcore with some rock'n'roll influenced guitars. The more rocking parts can be found on the records' two first tracks and after that the songs get a bit more straight on. My absolute favorites are the title track as well as "Cog in the Casual Machinery". Thoughtful political lyrics throughout the record shows that this band means business. The 10" comes on clear splattered vinyl and the cover artwork, signed Alex Snelgrove, is amazing. Great record! /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

BLACKLIST BRIGADE/ DEAD END KIDS "Days End Union" Split 7" Vinyl out on: No Front Teeth Records Britain's punk rock label no. 1 keeps releasing true punk rock records. This time a split with Blacklist Brigade and the Dead End Kids. The bands have a song each on each side of this transperent red piece of plastic and it's all good. Blacklist Brigade contributes to this recording with the best song I've heard from the band so far called "Red Bones". But, I think I like the Dead End Kids the most. Their sound is sligthly more polished and I really like the singers accent. Both "Engaged" and "Whatsoever" are killer punk rock tunes. Remember: If it's on NFT - Get it! /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

BRIDGE AND TUNNEL "Self Titled" 7" Vinyl out on: No Idea Records New band at No Idea feturing members from Latterman and Slingshot Dakota to name a few. This debut 7" holds 4 tracks of poppy punk rock. I like it. These kind of bands might be a bit hard to get into at first but after a few spins on the turntable the songs really grow. I like the female vocals on this record and on "In Case of Emergency" singer Rachel actually reminds me of Patti Smith. How cool is that? You can listen to the entire 7" at the band's myspace. Look 'em up! /Christer, Mutinyzine.com |

BROADWAY CALLS "Self Titled" CD State of Mind Recordings Take a portion of The Loved Ones and mix it up with some, hmmm, the 90's Green Day. That might give you a hint. This record is really good. This kind of pop-punk is a genre that has suffered a lot thanks to all these MTV bands that claim to be a part of it. Anyway, we know better, Broadway Calls is the real deal. Really good songs with cool hooks, good lyrics and a great recording. I love "Suffer the Kids" and "Escape From Capitol Hill". There are also a few acoustic songs that makes the whole thing even more interesting. Listen to this record! /Christer, Mutiny Zine |
